Omega HSE course

When required to meet new demands for HSE-training, Omega chose to make its own HSE-program, tailor-made for its employees.
Omega`s own HSE program includes E-learnings courses, evening sessions and home assignments.
Omega will offer two HSE courses every year. The courses will be held in different locations. This fall one will be held in Ølensvåg. Follow Omega`s Course Calendar to be updated on new courses.
Developed by Omega
After a revision of the Working Environment Act and new client demands for HSE training Omega started developing its own HSE course. It has been under development since June 2010, and the first employees finished the course in January 2011.
The course is required of all employees in leading positions, and those on the Project Management frame agreement with Statoil. This is also an opportunity to refresh previous HSE knowledge for those who have already completed similar courses.
40 hours
“We developed the course ourselves both to raise Omegas HSE profile and increase our expertise in the area. This is not just a pro forma course, we want to involve the participants as much as possible, and encourage them to reflect on the subjects and share experiences,” says Erlend Nedrelid at Omega Service Centre, who has been responsible for developing the program.
The course includes both individual exercises and group assignments, and is divided into several sections, in total 40 hours:
- E-learning course
- Two evening sessions
- Home assignments
The course covers a number of central HSE subjects during the different exercises of the course, including:
- The Working Environment Act
- The physical and psychological work environment
- How to prevent disease
- Ethics
- AKAN (The resource center for substance abuse and addiction problems)
- Emergency Preparedness
- Inclusive Workplace
Advantages with own training
"This is not just a pro forma course, we want to involve the participants as much as possible," says Erlend Nedrelid at Omega Service Centre.
There are several advantages in offering employees Omega`s own tailor-made HSE course, says Omega CEO Petter Aalvik.
“The alternative was buying it from others. But we saw this as an opportunity to be proactive in the HSE work, to acquire knowledge and build expertise on the subject in Omega. To make the program more relevant and interesting we wanted a tailor-made course adapted to our employees` situation. Many of our team members are working where the clients are, and we grab every opportunity to get better acquainted with them and strengthen the Omega network. With the evening sessions we get to meet the consultants, and they get to meet each other. This is why we wanted to do the HSE course Omega style.”
