Omega on Scarabeo 8
Published: 30.11.10 (Updated: 01.07.11)
Omega joined forces with its neighbours Westcon to offer the Saipem Scarabeo 8 project all the advantages of PIMS CMS.
In October 2010, Omega was awarded a contract to supply its Completion Management System — PIMS CMS and PIMS Document Control, as well as personnel of all disciplines.
Westcon outbid rival companies for the prestigious Scarabeo 8 contract which will provide work for up to 500 workers, working around the clock to complete the rig on time.
On 12 October 2010, Omega was given the green light to install PIMS CMS. Omega has 23 consultants currently contracted to Westcon on Scarabeo 8 and continues to recruit, primarily for the commissioning team.
Scarabeo 8 is a semi-submersible rig with dynamic positioning for operation in ultra-deep water and harsh environments. Following a fire in the port side of the rig in June 2010, which destroyed over 1000 cables and some of its main switchboards, Saipem decided to complete the rig in Northern Europe.
Westcon expect the Scarabeo 8 to be completed, and ready for its final destination in the Goliat field in the Barents Sea, in the spring of 2011.
