AppEd goes international

AppEd is an educational concept for system personnel that was first introduced to the Omega team in Ølensvåg in September 2008.

Having gained popularity at Omega headquarters, the concept was later rolled out in Singapore and Las Vegas (for the members of the Omega PS team in Houston).

Following the introduction of the new R3 framework (see “Appframe R3” information below), Omega’s technology division set up a three-day course showcasing the new Appframe technology.

The AppEd concept was inspired by Microsoft’s TechEd (a yearly MS developer conference), for everyone that uses MS technology.

When Omega PS introduced its team to the Advantage programme in autumn, they did it in style. Thirty-seven participants travelled to USA’s entertainment capital, Las Vegas, for a weekend filled with team building and Appframe education. Two weeks later AppEd debuted in Singapore.

One of AppEd’s initiators in Ølensvåg, Vidar Nordnes, explains the point behind these AppEd gatherings:

“The R3 framework has now been introduced, and AppEd also serves as a ‘release party’ of sorts, as well as a push for the system developers to implement the new technology,” Nordnes tells us.

“Many developers work in different locations, and may only have contact over the phone or electronically via mail and messenger. Here, for once, they could meet face-to-face.”

Those participants who were less acquainted with the technology also had the chance to learn a lot through two days of education and lectures.

Appframe R3

The third version of Omega’s Appframe (Application Framework) has now been released. In addition to being used in internal technology, the R3 framework forms the basis for a number of clients’ PIMS installations.

The new technology platform has many advantages both to end users and developers:
