AppEd 2008
Published: 06.10.08 (updated: 09.02.11)
The Ølensvåg main office was inundated by over 40 developers from all over Norway september 4-6, 2008. AppEd is an educational concept for system personnel in Omega that had its debut in Ølensvåg in september 2008.
Some of the AppEd speakers taking a break.
Attentive listeners.
Born from the idea of Microsoft’s TechEd (a yearly MS developer conference), AppEd’s purpose is to gather and educate developers who work with Omega’s Appframe technology.
- We have had positive feedback from the participants, regarding both the technical and the social elements of the event, says Vidar Nordnes, one of the initiators of AppEd 2008.
- Many developers work in different locations, and may only have contact over the phone or electronically via mail and messenger. Here, for once, they could meet face-to-face.
As well as developing teamwork and creating relationships, the conference acted as an important information and education channel for developers.
- The R3 framework has now been introduced, and this also served as a “release party” of sorts, as well as a push for the system developers to implement the new technology, Nordnes tells us. Those participants who were less acquainted with the technology also had the chance to learn a lot through two days of education and lectures.
On the final night of AppEd a competition was held to select the best Appframer at Omega. Twenty questions led to three finalists, Aleksander Birkeland, Semion Larin and Arild Røksund. In the end, Arild came out on top and can now proudly call himself “Norwegian Appframe Hero”. Congratulations!
On this occasion, the AppEd conference was held in Norwegian, but there are plans to expand the concept internationally. In fact, the Omega PS office in Houston is already planning an AppEd event in Las Vegas for their employees this fall. Upcoming AppEd events will be announced in My Advantage.
