AppEd 2010 impressed with new look
Published: 01.11.10 (updated: 09.02.11)
The organisers of Omega’s biennial AppEd developers’ conference impressed in 2010 with a new, tailored format that captured the interest of 70 local and international attendees.

The most tech-savvy of the Omega team converged on Omega headquarters in Ølensvåg for the annual AppEd developers’ conference from October 1-2.
With twice as many attendees as in 2008 and a growing international contingent, conference organisers, including AppEd co-founder Vidar Nordnes, were faced with a welcome challenge – how to cater the information on offer to each individual attendee.

“The primary goal of AppEd is developer education. In order to build on a developer’s knowledge, we have to respect the language they speak and their existing skill set,” explains Nordnes.
“We wanted the content to be challenging and relevant for everyone attending.”
In order to achieve this goal, 27 sessions were offered (in English) across three tracks catered for beginners, advanced developers and those with a special interest in PIMS. Sessions ranged in topic from “Introduction to CR3” to “Hardcore SQL”.
Torbjørn Vik Lunde witnessed the benefits of the new conference format, both as presenter and attendee.
“There was a real interactivity in the sessions. Presenters were often asked questions as they spoke and discussions developed amongst the audience, which was great and very Omega.”
As part of the keynote address, Chairman Sigmund Lunde touched on the role of developers and AppEd in Omega’s larger corporate culture and suggested that, having himself dabbled in most every facet of the business, he believed developers occupied some of the most interesting roles in the company.
Attendees had the opportunity to interact in a less formal setting on the Friday evening as they joined forces for football, volleyball and dinner at Løo restaurant.
An AppFrame quiz was posed in order to crown the 2010 AppFrame Hero. In keeping with the conference, it was an international affair, with Lithuania’s Jekaterina “Kate” Golouchova taking home the crown and a two-year subscription to Microsoft TechNet Pro.
AppEd’s next stop will be Austin, Texas, where Omega PS will host the conference from November 11–14. Omega PS developers can sign up for the conference via My Advantage now.
